My month of June began with a lovely show at the Law Office in Yorkville, where one of my bucket list items that I didn't know existed was realized: I ate mac & cheese with the band Quiet Hollers (who happen to be in my top 5 favourite bands, like, ever). What a grand day.
The following day I had my very first rehearsal with Katy Gillan, a beautiful violinist who adds so much to our songs (and our hearts, obviously).
I attended a Cubs game (that they won!!) on a day off that really looked like something out of a Tim Burton directed motion picture - so much fog. Right up my alley.
I played a songwriter round, a coffeehouse, and another coffeehouse in three days time - all which were charming and enjoyable to be a part of.
The next week, I met with my dear friend & mentor Barbara Weigand to talk stage design, raffle planning, and (!!!!) WGN. We followed this meeting with a band rehearsal for the Arcada Theatre. The weekend was filled with more shows, and then my 19th birthday. On this day, I went on Local Chaos 89.1 FM radio show to talk about the upcoming Make-A-Wish fundraiser. We also made time to watch one of my favourite movies, Tangled. Best kind of birthday.
The next week was filled with more meetings, rehearsals, and planning, with a few trips to the hospital downtown sprinkled in between. The night before WGN, we played in downtown Aurora for Wednesday's at the Plaza before a massive thunderstorm.
Thursday the 27th was one of the busiest days of the month!! We loaded in to WGN at 9:30 am and met the amazing crew and sound team (shout out to Ziggy - he did a wonderful job). Thank you to everyone who watched, sent messages, and supported this in any way. I am blessed to be in a position to share my story, and I am very thankful to all those who encouraged me to do so. That night, we played at Uncommon Ground with Barton Hartshorn, one of the best lyricists/guitar players/singers I have been able to share a stage with.
The following days were filled with long rehearsals and last minute planning, and before we knew it the 30th rolled around. If you were in the room that day at the Arcada Theatre, let me start off by saying thank you from the bottom of my heart. What a magical experience we were all able to share together. It was a simply beautiful day of music and storytelling and raising awareness for Make-A-Wish. The event I have been planning and dreaming of for nearly a year has come to a close, but I know that we will continue to talk about and share memories from it for the rest of our lives.
Taking some time off this July to reflect and breathe - thank you all for the best June I've ever had, and have a blessed month. <3
